As a loyal supporter of Fire Door Safety Week, we aim to do our bit for the cause by spreading awareness of the importance of fire doors, whilst letting you know that all PDS Fire Doorsets are third party accredited and certified.
Door installers, landlords, responsible persons, homeowners and residents should all be well-informed about the standards necessary to meet fire certification. As well as sourcing doors from an accredited supplier it is imperative fire doors undergo proper installation, to fulfil their primary job: saving lives.
According to the Fire Door Safety Week organisation,
“There are about 3 million new fire doors bought and installed every year in the UK, the vast majority made from timber. Fire doors are often the first line of defence in a fire and their correct specification, maintenance and management can be the difference between life and death for building occupants. However, they remain a significant area of neglect, often the first thing to be downgraded on a specification and mismanaged throughout their service life, propped open, damaged and badly maintained.”
Why use fire doorsets?
Fire doorsets are an essential element of any building. They serve several purposes:
Protecting the route of escape
Providing emergency services with a protected route to enter the building
Protecting those in a building who may not be able to evacuate quickly.
Minimising the damage caused by fire and smoke
A door’s fire safety isn’t judged by the leaf alone. It’s important that all elements and processes of its manufacture are done to the correct specification, including intumescent strips and smoke seals, hinges, locks and latches, door closers and glazing. Should any of these key elements fail, the door integrity will be affected reducing the performance of this vital lifesaving product.
